A gig, a busking job, and a radio appearance
Just played at the Walk A crooked Mile
book store for the first time this year. It's
been our only steady gig for a long time now,
and we thank owner Greg Williams for helping
us and other struggling musicians over the
years.
We drew over 100 fans this time - our best turnout yet. My little dog Casey was in attendance and he was a big hit. WXPN DJ Chuck Elliot was also in attendance and graciously invited us to play live on the radio on the June 14th Gene Shay Show. 'XPN is a giant among indie radio stations, so we are obviously pumped about the opportunity to be heard over the air by a much larger (than 100) audience.
Back on solid ground, the band has been granted a permit to busk on South Street in Philly on weekends for the entire summer. It's hard work. At 61, I'm not in the shape I was ten years ago when I played 5 hours a night in a bar band. Now I start to fade after 3 hours, but I think this gig will help me get my chops back up to speed, not to mention give us some good stories to talk about. If it doesn't kill us, it'll make us a better band.
Between all this activity, and trying to arrange reviews and distribution deals for our upcoming CD, I'm doing zero writing, and I look forward to the time when I can just sit back and write some new tunes and work on some of Martha's new ideas too.
But, hey, there is movement, and it's all good. More to come. Thanks for tuning in.
