Live on WXPN
Our first (and hopefully not last) radio
appearance
Last night we played five songs on the
Folk Show, guest-hosted by Chuck Elliot.
It was the first radio show appearance for
all of us, and we were a bit nervous, but
well-rehearsed, especially due to all the
busking we've been doing of late.
My day began in turmoil when I tried to
update our website and the whole thing
crashed. I spent two hours pulling out my
hair and talking to technicians on the phone.
Then Lynda & I played for an hour or so
on South Street. I went home to get ready for
the show, and right before leaving for the
station, I stepped in some sort of mixture of
dog-poop and gum. I hosed off my sneakers,
but still smelled like a zoo when I entered
the studio. Whenever I'm on the verge of
something big and new, the fates seem to
throw up roadblocks.
Anyway, our producer / engineer / friend
Daoud Shaw graciously agreed to accompany us
and play percussion, which livened up our
performance A LOT. He also made sure the
techies at the station gave us a good setup.
We waited in a big studio until it was our
part of the show, then Chuck Elliot came in,
chatted with us on-air a bit, and we played 5
songs: One of Us and Obla Di (cover songs),
and the originals Canyon Song, The Wisdom of
my Youth, and God Gives You What You Need.
We got a few complimentary emails, and an
inquiry about a gig, but we also gained
experience and confidence that we can hold
our own in this wacky business. We're having
fun.
